Walking through the streets of Molfetta it is impossible not to notice the green shutters that characterize the houses of the old town and that inspired the packging of our Apulian products. There has never been any official municipal regulation, yet from generation to generation the shutters have been typically painted with the green color, now known as “Verde Molfetta”.
Anyway, where does this custom come form? People say it was used to help the sailors, who sailed along the coast, to recognize the town and sail towards the harbour. Others state that at the end of the 19th century, windows began to be painted using this colour under the influence of the city of Trieste, with which at the time there was an intense trade, and so it became a real fashion. The “Verde Molfetta” shade also entered the jargon of hardware stores, which still offer it in the choice of chromatic variations.
The Verde Molfetta shutter obviously had to be the protagonist of the packaging of typical Apulian products Aria di Mare . This particular shade of green identifies our city, our traditions, our memories.
